The existing fixed phone lines and internet network infrastructure will be upgraded during the rollout. Once the rollout is complete in your area, you’ll no longer have access to a fixed-line telephone as during the installation process, the copper cabling is removed.

What you need to know about the National Broadband Network (NBN). Why is the government rolling out the NBN?
The National Broadband Network (NBN) will provide 93% of Australian homes, schools and workplaces in urban and regional towns with high-speed internet and phone access to optical fibre*. This will give people across Australia better access to services such as eHealth and streaming TV, along with many other internet-based services.
At the end of the transition period, your telecommunications provider has a regulatory obligation to disconnect the traditional copper wire network from your home. This means that if you wish to continue to make phone calls or use the internet through a landline service, you’ll need to be connected to the NBN.

When the NBN fibre network is available at your location, you’ll have an 18-month transition period in which to select your NBN services from any of the many Retail Service Providers (RSPs) operating in your region. At the end of the transition period, if you wish to continue to make phone calls or use the internet through a landline service (not via a wireless service such as mobile telephone or internet) you’ll need to be connected to the NBN.
